![]() Both are basically pure sandbox games, though there is a plot/story in TC, afaik. I'd say get X4 if you have the hardware for it and X3 later if you like it, but I guess it could work the other way around. TC/AP has considerably lower hardware requirements, obviously. If you only want to pick one, it's a tough call. X3:TC/AP - More ship/weapon variety, more sectors (though some of them look rather generic), more danger (can you get one-shot killed in X4?), faster pace (station building doesn't take time, SETA is better), faked economy (faction ships appearing out of thin air), AI feels more capable than X4 if you disable collisions in the cheat menu mod (that is, it feels more capable at stuff not involving collisions). X4 - much better actually simulated economy, huge improvement in immersion and graphics, slower pace (especially building stations takes a LOT of time), shitty SETA that has to be crafted (bloody crafting/grind mechanics have to be in everything nowadays), enemy sectors completely unthreatening to player-driven ships thanks to travel drive, custom assembly of stations from modules. No, you cannot play X3TC story missions in X3AP. The difference between the two is that X3TC has some more storylines but X3AP has a bunch of gameplay additions. Btw you need X3: terran conflict to play Albion prelude. The bugs in FL will be fixed in time and you‘ll have a better experience later. First of all Farnham‘s Legacy is way more complex and for now still buggy. If money is a bigger issue then get X3, as the whole ideal X4 package requires both DLCs. You should start with Albion Prelude if this is your first experience with the x3 series. Imo, if you only have time to play one and money isn't a large issue get X4. That said there are mods such as Litcube's Universe that makes X3 more complex, but you're going to need to understand the base game first. You hire crew in X4 and can see them in game. Furthermore, all your ships are piloted by AI (no crew) in X3. When you dock in X3 a docking arm connects you to the station and a UI pops up to do whatever and that's it. In X3 you can only space walk to get that scale. Then there's that whole immersion thing with being able to walk on space stations and bigger ships to get that sense of scale in X4. X3 just poofs their ships out of thin air. PAC- Ok for M4 and M5 shield removal, use with IRE's to make great cap combo. If you wanted to blockade a sector that contains a faction's shipyard, whereby the shipyard doesn't receive ship building materials, you'll eventually starve their merchant and war fleet in a war of attrition if you desire. IRE's- Great for removing hull points bad with shields, use with Ions or a heavier laser, TP- Only use a Iguana, if you can, a vanguard, Ion's, PAC's and IRE's on a cheap hull, a good substitute for a M3 M6- A Xenon P if you can get it, but if not, a Hydra, Ions and PBE's, have fun M5- A harrier if you want shields or a Jaguar if you like speed, both can carry APAC's and IRE's, use recommended for M5 capping only M4- A Mako is the best: fast, Ions, PBE's, its great, Just remember to come from directly above if attacking a M3, turrets are nasty M3- A falcon hands down, use Ions to strip shields and then use the highly accurate PBE to remove the hull, piece by piece. Use the Ions and use PACs to drop the hull a little and fire the PAC's and IRE's until they bail, The same idea here, but wait until you have a nicer ship, Ions, PACs and IRE's. When the shields are down, use the IRE's and wait for him to bail Get in close and rip in with PACs until the shields drop and pop two shot from a PAC into him and fly away and hit em from the front. Get back to your ship by selecting it and hitting "E" Fly to 30m away and hit "i" and then claim. Soon the ship turns blue, the pirate has bail, kill him. Get behind him, wait for shields to regen alittle and let loose. Switch to PACs and remove the shields then hit him with IRE's. Reason: Weapons are mounted on the front and if you hit their weapons, they bail faster. Switch to IRE's and let loose (Tip, have two weapon groups one with PAC's and one with IRE's) when you hit his hull and reduce it about 14%, fly away and make sure he's following. Remove the shields with PAC's and get behind him. Fly in full speed and kill everything except a SINGLE harrier, you choice which one. Fly to ore belt and wait for a convoy of pirate harriers to come along, make sure they are 30 KM away from their base and fly with in 10 KM of the convoy. This section assumes you have a buster, start by getting a unit of salvage insurance and if possible 2 BIRE's. Start with pirate harriers, that way you can have a smuggling ship and you don't lose rep points. Note: I made this on my own and if you want to contribute, send me a PMĬapping is a great way to make cash in the beginning of the game and can play a big part in getting enough cash to start an empire.Ī.
